Marvel and Disney Have Been “Hands Off and Supportive” of the Development of DEADPOOL 3 — GeekTyrant

Everything we’ve been listening to about the growth of Deadpool 3 over the previous few months has been thrilling. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been having fun with engaged on the script, and they’ve been proud of the artistic freedom that Marvel Studios and Disney have given to them.

The writers proceed to offer updates on the movie, and each time they do, they share how excited they’re to be engaged on the project. In their most up-to-date interview with DiscussingFilm, they are saying the studio has been “very hands off and supportive” of the imaginative and prescient for the film. Reese mentioned:

“It’s almost like putting on a comfy old sweater. Marvel’s really given us the support to maintain the tone and the vision that we have for it. They’ve been very hands-off and supportive, but they’ve also let us do what we do. So really, it’s just been fun. We’re mad scientists back in the laboratory again. Deadpool is our favorite who will always be the character I think we’re most associated with, and we’re very grateful for being allowed to write him again. So it’s a blast. It’s like going back to school again after having summer off. It’s pretty fun.”

When beforehand speaking about the assist they’ve acquired from Marvel and Disney, Reese mentioned:

“Don’t worry about that, they’ve been very supportive with regard to that. Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”

When teasing the story of the movie Reese shared that will probably be a “fish-out-of-water story.” He defined:


Shawn Levy is ready to direct the movie, and Ryan Reynolds will reprise his position as Deadpool. I can’t wait to see what story they give you for this character now that he’s in the MCU!
